My husband, Stephen, and I were walking down a dark street when a large man approached us from the other direction. In an instant he was lunging our way and Stephen yelled loudly, “Heather! RUN!!”
So went the dream my husband had and recounted to me the other day (or worst nightmare, as he put it).
Seeing Stephen in such distress (understandably) as he told me about his “nightmare” made me think about all the things we are so afraid of and how much energy we spend collectively as humans trying to do whatever we can to avoid being in any state of pain, distress, or even somewhat slightly uncomfortable. Which is a formula that can make it nearly impossible to move forward as a Highly Sensitive Entrepreneur®.
By choosing to be self-employed you’ve naturally put yourself on the path of the unknown surrounded by the forest of risk and since as a highly sensitive person, by nature, you’ve learned to protect yourself against the “loud, overwhelming, over-stimulating” world these two elements together create a formula for a dead stop. You can’t move forward, you can’t move backward. There you are standing still feeling called to share your HSE® talent through your business, but unable to take a step out of fear of “what if”…
According to Buddhist Nun, Pema Chodren, “If you don’t know the nature of fear, you can never be fearless.”(Whoa. Let’s just take that in for a moment, shall we?)
Pema recently gave a graduation address at Naropa University, where her granddaughter was graduating, and shared this wisdom: “ the best thing you can do is learn how to fail really well, to hold the pain of things happening that you really don’t want to be happening… to experience the rawness of vulnerability … and to know the experience of when something terrible happens it means an opportunity for you to evolve into a better place, a new experience”.
Such a needed message for young people right now; and such a necessary message for every HSE, always.
As you read this I am on my way across the United States to attend a spiritual, SILENT retreat for six whole days. I am beyond nervous. I’m going somewhere I’ve never gone, spending six days with people I’ve never met, stepping away from contact with my husband, family, friends. This is a big deal for a person who is highly sensitive (and boy do I know this from the other end as facilitator of retreats for HSEs and how though attending one of my retreats will be transformative for HSE attendees they – you! – can come up with every “unreasonable reason” under the sun to not be there, to keep yourself in your comfortable home cocoon – sometimes to the point of making yourself sick or having accidents!)
So I’m nervous, but also excited. Because I know something awaits. I also know I am equipped with the same tools I teach my Business Miracle Community Members to support me with managing my HSE Shadow tendencies: fear, overwhelm, and over-protection (just to name a few :)).
Recently, someone shared with me this definition of fear: Feeling Excited And Ready.
Isn’t that great?
So, Heather, what pain are you currently trying to protect yourself from? What fear are you resisting stepping through? What are you running from?
If you’re ready to learn how to truly create a shift through your fear into inspired implementation then please keep your eyes out for an invitation to join me at my special, uniquely designed for HSEs in-person training retreat: Business Miracles LIVE: Inspired Implementation happening in Ft Lauderdale, Florida October 12-14. Seats are coveted.
Until then …
Love and Blessings!
