Historically this time of year people, particularly in the Northern Hemisphere, look for a way to cope in the darkness of the winter season:
- Imbolc, or Imbolg – one of the lesser-known festivals of the ancient Celts, celebrate the strengthening light of the Sun.
- Candlemas – Imbolc’s Catholic counterpart, celebrates the Feast of the Holy Encounter.
- Groundhog Day – a popular North American tradition derived from the Pennsylvania Dutch superstition that if a groundhog emerging from its burrow on this day sees its shadow due to clear weather, it will retreat to its den and winter will persist for six more weeks; but if it does not see its shadow because of cloudiness, spring will arrive early.
As sacred (or silly!) as they are, all of these festivals, celebrations, rituals and holidays have been established as a way to remind people that things will change.
That the light will come.
If you associate this time of year with feelings of darkness or despair, you are not alone! The fact that these holidays have all popped up is evidence that this is a very normal and natural part of the human annual cycle.
So often when we are faced with “darkness” we try to rush ourselves through it because we fear that it will engulf us and we will never resurface into the “light”.
Or that we can’t “get done what needs to get done” due to the darkness.
But there is beauty and power in darkness.
It is through darkness that transformation occurs.
AND, since we feel things so deeply as Highly Sensitive Entrepreneurs and Leaders, we have an opportunity to create from darkness.
When we can learn to lean in and embrace the darkness – with the knowing that the light will come – there can be creation happening WITHIN the darkness.
It will look different than active creation in that it will be from a space of creative stillness, but the creation is still happening.
P.S. This was the exact topic of an in-depth training and roundtable discussion that I recently led for the Business Miracles Community of Highly Sensitive Entrepreneurs and Leaders, where I taught practical ways for moving out of coping and into creating, even in the darkness.
If you sense that you too would benefit from real-time, energetic support in an aligned community, as well as tangible actions that can be implemented immediately to create acceleration through the places where you get stuck, I invite you to click here to speak to a Business Miracles Enrollment Coach, who will help you get clear on whether Highly Sensitive Leadership Training is the best next step for you at this time.
