Why Does Marketing Feel So Hard?
Marketing as a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP) can feel exhausting, especially when perfectionism sneaks in. The pressure to get every detail right can stop you before you even start. You second-guess your words and tweak endlessly; before you know it, another week has passed with nothing shared. Sound familiar?
What if marketing could feel lighter? What if you could show up consistently without overthinking every step? The key isn’t perfection; it’s consistency. Small, intentional actions lead to visibility, impact, and ease over time. Let’s explore how you can market effectively without getting lost in the HSP perfectionism trap.
What’s Happening with Heather
Today is the final day of Team Planning 2025 for the Business Miracles team, and – oh my gosh! – what a week it has been! We always head into these annual weeks with a VERY long list of items we want to create and accomplish, and there are three things that typically happen, and this year was no different:
- Time expands for us, and we accomplish more than we believed we were able to.
- We never get it all done.
- We accomplish divinely exactly what’s needed, and what’s not needed gracefully gets deleted or delayed until another time.
Oh, and we have soooo much fun doing it all in the name of always improving how we show up to serve our Business Miracles community of HSPs in business and leadership.
HSP Marketing: Focus on Consistency Over Perfection
Perfectionism can be paralyzing, especially when it comes to marketing. You may feel the need to tweak and refine endlessly, but in reality, action—however imperfect—is what creates results. The key is to establish a rhythm that feels sustainable for you.
1. Focus on Connection, Not Perfection
People resonate with authenticity, not flawless execution. Your audience doesn’t need a perfectly polished message—they need you. Allow your personality, voice, and mission to shine through.
Instead of striving for perfection, ask yourself:
- Does this post or email genuinely reflect my values and message?
- Is my intention clear and aligned with my audience’s needs?
- Am I showing up in a way that feels good for me?
When you focus on connection over perfection, marketing becomes an opportunity to build relationships, not just another task on your to-do list.
2. Create a Simple Marketing Rhythm
Marketing consistency doesn’t mean posting every day or running yourself ragged. It means finding a routine that works for your energy levels and sticking to it.
Try this simple approach:
- Set a timer: Give yourself 30 minutes to create content, whether a post, email, or video. When the timer goes off, take a short break.
- Edit with fresh eyes: After your break, do one round of edits. Resist the urge to over-edit or second-guess every word.
- Share it with the world: Done is better than perfect! Publish or schedule your content and move forward with confidence.
Then, choose platforms that align with your strengths. If writing is your strength, focus on blogs or emails. If you love speaking, try short videos or podcasts. The goal is to make marketing sustainable, not overwhelming.
3. Done is Better Than Perfect
Perfectionism delays impact. Small, regular actions compound into significant results over time. Your audience isn’t looking for perfection—they are looking for solutions, inspiration, and connection.
Every imperfect post, email, or video you put out builds momentum. The more you show up, the easier marketing becomes. Trust that your voice and message have value just as they are, without endless tweaking.
The Good Enough Business: A Game-Changer for HSPs
At Business Miracles, we explore a concept called The Good Enough Business in our Online Learning Center, a portal for Business Miracles Members. The Concept is about accepting where you are now and trusting that you don’t need to have it all figured out to make progress.
The Business Miracles Creation Pathway is a powerful tool that helps you:
- Identify what you truly want from your business.
- Determine what is good enough right now.
- Release the pressure of doing everything at once.
By shifting your mindset to embrace “good enough,” marketing—and business as a whole—becomes much more manageable and aligned with your sensitive nature.

Jennifer Ricards
Highly Sensitive Leader and Healthcare Executive
“By doing things differently as a leader in support of my highly sensitive nature, as Heather teaches, I recently instituted “no meeting Fridays” for my executive team, allowing us all time for recovery and greater space for creation. And unexpectedly, I will be receiving a $99,000 bonus. I’ve been telling myself that “money can come from many places” and this is just one example. This, on top of my other compensation this month, will eclipse my former ANNUAL salary.”
Jennifer’s experience is a perfect example of what happens when you lean into aligned action rather than overthinking every step. When you release the need for perfection and trust in your ability, success flows naturally.
