Lead Differently. Grow Differently. Understanding your brain changes the way you lead your business.

If you’ve ever found yourself wondering…

“Why can everyone else seem to keep going when I’m completely drained?”

Or…

“Why do I know exactly what needs to be done, but still struggle to follow through?”

You’re asking questions that many Highly Sensitive Entrepreneurs, Leaders, and Highly Sensitive People have quietly carried for years.

The good news is that these experiences aren’t signs that you’re incapable of leading—or building a successful business.

They’re invitations to better understand how your mind, nervous system, and leadership style naturally work together.

The more you understand your unique way of processing information, making decisions, and responding to the world around you as a Highly Sensitive Entrepreneur, the more intentionally you can build a business that supports your success instead of constantly working against it.

That’s what Highly Sensitive Leadership is all about.

Why Trying Harder Isn’t the Answer

Most entrepreneurs have been taught that success comes down to discipline.

If you’re overwhelmed, work harder.
If you’re stuck, push through.
If you’re exhausted, stay consistent.
For Highly Sensitive Entrepreneurs, that advice often backfires.
Not because you’re unwilling to work.
Not because you’re unmotivated.

But because your nervous system plays a much bigger role in your productivity than most traditional business advice acknowledges.

Your ability to focus, make decisions, regulate emotions, recover from stress, and follow through on important work is closely connected to what’s known as executive functioning—the mental processes that help you plan, organize, prioritize, and take action.

When your nervous system is supported, these skills become much easier to access.

When your nervous system is overwhelmed, even simple tasks can feel impossible.

That’s why working with your brain—not against it—is one of the most important leadership shifts you can make.

A Powerful Reminder from This Year’s Acceleration Retreat

Last month I had the opportunity to do one of my favorite things in the entire world.

I spent several days in Montreal with ten incredible members of the Business Miracles community for our annual Acceleration Retreat.

Every retreat is different because it’s built around the members who are attending and what they most need at that point in their business journey.

This year, our focus was simple:

Make the second half of the year better than the first.

Not by working harder.
Not by setting bigger goals.
But by learning from what wasn’t working between January and July so we didn’t unconsciously repeat the same patterns.

One of the things I often say is:

It’s one thing to understand something. It’s another thing entirely to truly know it.

That deeper level of knowing showed up in beautiful ways throughout the retreat.

One member experienced a breakthrough that perfectly illustrates what happens when we stop trying to fix ourselves and start understanding ourselves.

She realized that years of people-pleasing with her parents had quietly become people-pleasing in her business.

Without realizing it, she’d created a schedule that belonged to everyone else.

Together, we looked at one specific part of her calendar that felt especially restrictive.

Within minutes, new possibilities emerged.
She didn’t need a better planner.
She didn’t need more discipline.
She needed permission.

Permission to build a business that honored her Highly Sensitive needs as much as her clients’ needs.

By the end of the conversation, she wasn’t just creating more space for her business.

She was creating more space for herself—including something as simple, and joyful, as having time to read for pleasure again.

Those moments are why I love this work.
When Highly Sensitive Entrepreneurs truly know themselves, remarkable things begin to happen.

Sustainable Productivity Starts with Your Nervous System

Many entrepreneurs believe productivity is simply a matter of time management.

Highly Sensitive Leaders know it’s much more than that.
If you’ve ever felt guilty for needing breaks…
Found yourself procrastinating after pushing too hard…

Or wondered why some days you can accomplish everything while other days you struggle to begin…

Your nervous system may be asking for your attention.

Instead of labeling yourself as lazy, inconsistent, or behind, try becoming curious.

Ask yourself:

  • Am I overstimulated?
  • Am I understimulated?
  • What does my nervous system need right now?

The answers are often surprisingly simple.

Sometimes you need a boundary.
Sometimes you need movement.
Sometimes you need quiet.
Sometimes you need connection.
Supporting your nervous system isn’t avoiding work.
It’s creating the conditions that allow your best work to emerge.

Five Ways to Support Your Executive Functioning This Week

If you’d like to begin working with your brain instead of against it, try these five practices.

Pause Before Judging Yourself

Before deciding you’re “behind,” simply notice what’s happening.
Awareness creates options.
Self-criticism rarely does.

2. Identify Your Current State

Ask yourself whether you’re feeling overstimulated or understimulated.
Each requires a different response.

3. Choose One Supportive Action

Support might look like:

  • setting a boundary
  • taking a walk
  • reducing distractions
  • asking for help
  • intentionally connecting with another person
4. Respond with Curiosity

Instead of asking,
“What’s wrong with me?”

Try asking,
“What is my nervous system trying to tell me?”

5. Redefine Productivity

Real productivity isn’t about doing more.

It’s about creating sustainable momentum without sacrificing your health, relationships, or joy.

A Member Making an Impact

Business Miracles member Helene Tisdale, CEO of The Home Remedy Concierge, experienced this shift firsthand.

While navigating personal loss, raising her daughter during the summer, and training a new employee, she discovered that success didn’t require pushing herself even harder.

It required leading differently.

“Through staying in process with the Intuitive Planning as Heather teaches, I am taking care of myself, even taking proactive naps. All while also navigating personal losses and summer with my daughter at home AND training a new employee. Instead of pushing, soothing, and fizzling out, I’m choosing to use what Heather calls Privilege of Agency to take care of myself first and speak up for what I need in my relationships and in my business. I’m like an entirely different person and a much better leader in my business and my family.”

Helene’s story is a powerful reminder that sustainable growth doesn’t come from ignoring your needs.

It comes from honoring them.

Struggling with business and leadership overwhelm?

Reaching your business goals with ease, inspiration and calm takes consistent choice/action to shift from awareness, to understanding, and into knowing (what I call the AUK Transformation Process) – and it very rarely happens without accountability and support. Many other HSP entrepreneurs just like you are working to manage overwhelm, burnout, and other day-to-day challenges with business operations and marketing as a highly sensitive entrepreneur.

My high mentor recommendation is to schedule a complimentary clarity call with either myself or a very capable and uniquely trained-by-me member of the Business Miracles coach team. This is an opportunity to have one of the most eye-opening conversations you’ve ever had – without any attachment to the outcome – just a chance to connect with someone who “gets” you.

Get clear on your best next steps and see if The Highly Sensitive Leadership Training Program is the right container of support for you. You can create more business and life success with less effort while also making more income and impact in the world.
