How to Ride the Wave of These Volatile Times to Beat End-of-Year Overwhelm and Overstimulation as an HSP

I've been asked recently about end-of-year overwhelm and what my take is regarding what's happening in our world right now, particularly in the Middle East, and mostly why I haven't spoken out about it all on social media. And here's my response:

Speaking to What’s Happening in the World and End-of-Year Overwhelm

In my opinion, this is a centuries old complex issue that I am far from an expert on and all the noise crowding social channels is both a disrespect and a disservice to the people on the front lines most directly, profoundly and tragically impacted. I’m not interested in adding to that noise.

However, I will readily engage in a deep conversation with anyone who desires either by phone, video or in person. Please reach out. I don’t pretend to have solutions or expert insight in these matters, but I do have heart to share.

Now, where I do have expert insight is how Highly Sensitive Entrepreneurs and leaders can best be managing themselves for ultimate calm and contributive productivity regardless of what chaos is happening in the world, and regardless of the end-of-year overwhelm so many are experiencing on top of it all. Honestly, that’s the best focus we can have. The world isn’t going to benefit because you feel bad, anxious, worried or overwhelmed. Take care of your nervous system so you’re available to contribute through your relationships, providing stellar service and support to your clients and just overall how you show up in the world.

Keys to Riding the Wave

Here are your golden keys to beat end-of-year overwhelm and ride this wave through these continuing exceptional times and at this often volatile time of year:

1. Privilege of Agency. Use your agency to connect and reconnect as needed to yourself, to what your body and nervous system need to operate optimally. If needed, set yourself up with the HSE Training Kits (see Recommended Resources below) we have available to support you in doing so that include tools you will want to continue to use as we head into another New Year and beyond.

2. Physical Activity. According to the National Library of Medicine, “Exercise stimulates the sympathetic nervous system and will induce an integrated response from the body; This response works to maintain an appropriate level of homeostasis for the increased demand in physical, metabolic, respiratory, and cardiovascular efforts.” AKA you’re more likely to be able to access calm under stress or duress. So spend time in nature, exercise, nourish your body with intentional movement and use your voice. Holding in, pulling back, burying yourself in constant digital stimulation is going to render your system drained and dulled. Stay sharp so you’re available to contribute as needed, where needed.

3. Supportive Community. We are in the midst of a collective shift from 3D to 5D consciousness and this can feel very destabilizing as it is literally a disruption to support a reconstruction. You might find yourself having thoughts and feelings of fear, anger, sadness, or a sense of homesickness for you’re not even sure what that either come out of the blue or don’t make logical sense. It’s really important to surround yourself by others who get you as an HSP and are willing to acknowledge this shift as we move from 3D consciousness (D standing for the dimension of consciousness) which is about viewing things from a purely physical state, survival of the fittest; to then into 4D which is the beginning of a gateway to the fifth where it feels like we are literally caught between the old and the new , awakening to ideas such as the importance of diet, meditation, leading a healthy lifestyle; to then 5D when you begin to understand that all are one and we are all connected.  How do you navigate building and growing a business, leadership or just going to the grocery store in the midst of all this? Typically the end of the year is fraught with excitement, anticipation and maybe even a little bit of dread thrown into the mix. It’s all-too-common to feel this end-of-year overwhelm and overstimulation with so many places to be, things to do, people to connect with and obligations to fulfill.

Take a moment for self inquiry or journaling on the following questions:

  • In what areas does overwhelm or overstimulation typically come up for you this time of year?
  • How has this impacted your experience in the past and in what ways did you cope?

Next Inspired Action

Based on your answers above and the suggestions in the training clip, what are 1-3 things you can do differently this year to set a supportive frame for yourself – energetically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually – for this time of year?
