Throughout history, women have led revolutions, transformed industries, and changed the world—not through force but through vision, empathy, and deep sensitivity. Yet, for many of us, that same sensitivity has been misunderstood or dismissed as a weakness.
We’re rewriting the narrative this Women’s History Month: Your sensitivity is your greatest business leadership advantage. We’re highlighting Highly Sensitive women in history, embracing the power of the HSP neurodivergent brain, and exploring how you can leverage your sensitivity for success.

Highly Sensitive Women in History: Eleanor Roosevelt

Eleanor Roosevelt was a trailblazer in leadership, advocacy, and social justice. She embodied many signs of being an HSP, including deep empathy, strong intuition, and an acute awareness of injustice. Her ability to connect with the struggles of others fueled her lifelong commitment to human rights and equality. Despite facing criticism and opposition, she used her sensitivity as a strength—demonstrating that a highly sensitive brain vs. a normal brain is not a disadvantage but a powerful asset in leadership.
Like Eleanor, you, too, can use your sensitivity to create meaningful change. The key lies in understanding and embracing your unique processing style.

The HSP Brain vs. Normal Brain: Why Sensitivity is Your Superpower

The HSP neurodivergent brain is wired differently from the typical brain. Highly Sensitive People (HSPs) process information intensely, pick up on subtleties that others miss and have a strong emotional response to their environment. While traditional business models often cater to fast-paced, high-energy decision-making, HSP entrepreneurs and leaders thrive when they embrace their need for reflection, intuition, and aligned action.
Instead of seeing sensitivity as something to suppress, consider it a business strategy. When you lead from your natural strengths—empathy, intuition, and deep thinking—you create more impact with less effort.

Embracing Your Sensitivity as a Business Superpower

You may be wondering, “How can I suddenly switch gears and use sensitivity as a strength?” or even, “I’m not sure I believe it is a superpower yet.” That’s completely understandable. Years of conditioning may have made you feel like you need to “toughen up” or conform to traditional leadership styles.

But what if you didn’t? What if you allowed your sensitivity to guide your business and leadership decisions? Here’s how you can start:

  1. Recognize that many trailblazing women in history were likely HSPs – From Eleanor Roosevelt to Maya Angelou, many influential women have led with deep emotional intelligence, resilience, and vision.
  2. Honor your unique processing style – Instead of trying to fit into fast-paced business structures, create systems that work with your deep-thinking nature.
  3. Set boundaries to protect your energy – Your sensitivity is a gift, but only if you manage it well. Learning to say no can improve productivity and help you avoid burnout.
  4. Lean into strengths like deep empathy, creativity, and intuition – These qualities make you a natural leader, marketer, and innovator. Trust them.
  5. Surround yourself with a supportive community – Many HSPs struggle with feeling isolated. Finding a group that understands and uplifts your leadership style is essential.

What’s Happening with Heather: A Personal Retreat & Business Sustainability

This past week, I took a personal retreat with my Sweetheart Husband, Stephen. Both of us support many people in our professions, so we prioritize R&R&R—Rest, Relaxation, and Rejuvenation. The beautiful part? My business didn’t stop or fall apart in my temporary absence because I’ve created systems that support my Business Miracles team and community.
But it wasn’t always this way. When I first started my business over 20 years ago, I followed the advice of women-led business conferences and coaches, only to find that their strategies were often heavily influenced by traditional, male-dominated business models.

At the time, I didn’t know I was an HSP neurodivergent entrepreneur. My people-pleasing tendencies were off the charts, and I fell into what I now call the HSP Coping Mechanism of Pushing—forcing myself to keep up with a pace that wasn’t sustainable. This led to massive burnout, severe health issues, and an identity crisis.

It wasn’t until I embraced my HSP brain vs. normal brain processing style that everything changed. Now, I lead my business in a way that aligns with my sensitivity, creating more income and impact with less effort.

Business Miracles Members Making an Impact: Brianna Sylver

Name: Brianna Sylver
Title: Highly Sensitive Leader of Sylver Consulting

“Over the past year, I’ve had a number of visions drop in. I’ve known that they are connected, but unable to articulate exactly how. The October 2024 live training experience helped me to find the connective tissue between all these visions and then to create a plan for activating them all holistically.

I would—hands down—attend another live training with Mentor Heather Dominick. I consider these experiences to be GIFTS that I offer to myself, especially as an HSP operating a 7-figure business. No matter what’s happening in my business or how I’m feeling personally, I get value from taking three days to get in touch with what I truly want and what it is going to take to achieve those deepest dreams and desires. I always come away feeling renewed and restored and look forward to joining live training again in October 2025!”

Like Brianna, you may have multiple visions or ideas that feel disconnected. You might feel like you’re grasping at straws, struggling to fully utilize your HSP superpowers to capitalize on what you’re capable of. But you don’t have to figure it out alone.

Struggling with business and leadership overwhelm?

Reaching your business goals with ease, inspiration and calm takes consistent choice/action to shift from awareness, to understanding, and into knowing (what I call the AUK Transformation Process) – and it very rarely happens without accountability and support. Many other HSP entrepreneurs just like you are working to manage overwhelm, burnout, and other day-to-day challenges with business operations and marketing as a highly sensitive entrepreneur.

My high mentor recommendation is to schedule a complimentary clarity call with either myself or a very capable and uniquely trained-by-me member of the Business Miracles coach team.
